Apparently some people recommend "injecting the stratosphere with sulfur dioxide, increasing reflectivity" as a way of battling global warming.
I found it in this article: http://www.grist.org/news/daily/2006/06/28/5/?source=daily
Well, two things:
First, the increase in sulfur dioxide would also lead to an increase in acid rain.
Second, and more interesting, is that much of the sulfur dioxide that is emitted comes from the combustion of fossil fuels. See my handy chart below. Hmm... do we really believe in the "reflective" capabilities outweighing the harmful impact on the environment and our health? Now, who could recommend such a thing? The coal and oil industries, that's who. And who does the coal and oil lobby like? Republicans!
Some fun info from the EPA on SO2: http://www.epa.gov/air/urbanair/so2/index.html

In conclusion, I urge you, if ever when you are having cocktails you meet an "oil-man" or geologist or anyone else trying to convince you that we can fix the problem of global warming while still consuming as much as we want, tell them that they're dead wrong. Anything other than concerted effort to conserve and live environmentally-responsibl

More inane garbage thinking: let's "seed" the oceans with iron dust to spur the growth of more algae blooms, with would sequester CO2.
Here's the link: http://www.grist.org/news/
And what do algae blooms cause? Dead zones! And drop in biodiversity! Here's a fun diagram!

The evidence for stupid solutions is mounting....
